This site was created for an English 355 course at Washington State University Tri-Cities. The focus of this particular course is the use of the internet and multimedia to help make a case in an argument. This 'web-based argument' was derived from an earlier project in the same class. We were required to analyze an image found online or in print and write a paper about it. Later the papers were converted to HTML and posted online.

My image analysis focused of the picture of the 'Afghan Girl' shown on the cover of National Geographic magazine. Our instructor allowed us the option of carrying over the topic of our first assignment to our web-based argument in order for us build or case for the argument on a topic we had already written about and were familiar with. Much additional research was required for this argument, as its focus shifted from just analyzing the image to incorporating the presentation of the image with the accompanying article, and the use of the image across product lines sold by National Geographic.

The evolution of this site has been a slow one. After much research, it became apparrent that the original structure of the site was more condusive to an informational page rather than being used to direct a persons attention to the facts that built the argument. So after careful adjustment of the links, I think I've developed a progression that draws the viewer down the path of my chosing.

Regarding photo's and graphics on this site:
All of the graphics on this site containing images of the 'Afghan Girl', Sharbat Gula, were taken from National Geographic's homepage. Whenever possible I have linked to their associated page rather than utilize the image exactly as it appears on their site. The purpose of this site is educational, and my intent in it's creation is the fullfillment of a course requirement to analyze an image (In this case the cover of the April 2002 issue of National Geographic Magazine.) and develop an argument to be expressed using HTML on the web.
