touch - Create an empty file.
touch <filename>
mv - Move a file from one location to another. Can be used to rename a file.
mv <from_filename> <to_filename>
rm - Remove (delete) a file. Files removed in this manner can't be easily undeleted.
rm <filename>
tar - create or extract an archive containing a group of files.
tar czvf <archive name> <filelist>
or
tar xzvf <archive name>
Note: care must be taken with these commands, as they can cause irreparable damage to files
cat - Display the contents of a file, and join multiple files together.
cat <filelist>
less - Display the contents of a file interactively.
less <filename>
head - Display the first 10 lines of a file. With options, can specify any number of lines.
head <filename>
tail - Display the last 10 lines of a file. With options, can specify any number of lines, and continuous update.
tail <filename>
